Projects / Office / Farmers Insurance Group
Tim Jonkman first started working with Farmers Insurance Group in 1999 as a project manager for Bohnert Construction. After years of personal service establishing strong relationships with the Kansas City area managers and staff, Farmers reached out directly to Tim and asked that his personal firm, Jonkman Construction, take on numerous upcoming projects in Austin, TX, Portland, OR, and Oklahoma City, OK. This relationship has equated to more than 1 million square feet of new construction and interior build-out projects for Farmers Insurance. The ongoing relationship is a true testament to Jonkman’s mission that their work isn’t just business, it’s personal.
The Oklahoma City, Oklahoma location was quickly chosen to house Farmers Global Data Center. This accreditation means the building must be constructed to withstand a F5 tornado. The cast-in-place concrete walls held up a roof with 4 layers of No. 8 steel rebar reinforcement. Making the shell construction even more complex and exciting, Farmers Information Technology departments needed their Data Center Shell completed in just two months. This required Jonkman Construction to work 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. They delivered ahead of schedule and ahead of the record annual rainfall in Oklahoma City. Even when a tornado destroyed several job trailers and a flash flood left the site with 2” of standing water, the Jonkman team was focused and motivated on making sure Farmers Insurance was pleased with their new building.
The Oklahoma City, Oklahoma location achieved LEED® certification by the U.S. Green Building Council in 2011.
